Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in computational cosmology at the Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP) PAS in Warsaw, Poland to work in the research project “VErTIGO - VElocities TestIng Gravity and cOsmology” led by prof. Wojciech Hellwing, funded by the Polish National Science Center (NCN).
The successful applicant will contribute to the research program of the Computational Cosmology Group at CTP PAS focusing on designing, conducting and implementing novel tests of theories of Dark Energy and Modified Gravity and other beyond-LCDM models. The group puts particular emphasis on the development and implementation of dedicated simulation software (N-body and hydro) as well as running and analysing large cosmological computer simulations. The successful applicant can also benefit the group’s close links with DESI, LSST and KiDS consortia.
We seek candidates with a Ph.D. degree (awarded no earlier than in 2013*) in astronomy, physics or computational sciences, with experience in building and analysing mock galaxy catalogues. Past experience in working with spectroscopic and velocity galaxy catalogues will be an added value. The position will be available for initially two years, with a possible extension for the third year, subject to satisfactory performance.
The salary will be higher than the usual Polish post-doc rate, and will amount to 138 000PLN (~32 200 EUR) per annum (before taxes and social security contribution), which is more than adequate to cover costs of living in Warsaw. There is also a dedicated travel budget of 2000 EUR per year and 3500 EUR for personal computing equipment.
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, a brief research statement (max. 4 pages), CV, and a publication list in a single pdf file to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of reference separately sent to the same email address. Applications submitted by Nov 20th, 2020 will receive full consideration. The position will remain open until filled. For further information please contact Prof. Wojciech Hellwing (email@example.com.
