Postdoctoral Position in Stellar Astrophysics
KAVLI INSTITUTE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS
University of California, Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara, CA 93106-4030
There will be a postdoctoral opening in the research group of Prof. Lars Bildsten starting September 1, 2022. The initial appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year, contingent on continued funding and a reasonable level of research performance. The postdoctoral researcher would carry out research in collaboration with Bildsten's research group. The scope of theoretical work ranges from supernova to probing stellar properties via asteroseismology. Developing and using the computational tool, Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) is also a large part of the group's activities. We strongly collaborate with the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF), the Las Cumbres Observatory (LCO), and an active theory network in Time-Domain Astrophysics with Caltech, Princeton, and UC Berkeley. Theoretically oriented observational astrophysicists are welcome to apply.
Minimum requirements: Completion of Ph.D. degree by the start date. Additional requirements: Outstanding research in astrophysics appropriate to level of position, and the ability to identify and pursue research problems independently while working well in an interactive and dynamic setting.
Applications for postdoctoral positions should be made electronically via the Academic Jobs Online website: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/19213
The application must consist of a curriculum vita, publication list, statement of research interests, and three letters of reference.
Inquiries may be addressed to Professor Lars Bildsten (bildsten at kitp.ucsb.edu). Apply by November 15, 2021 for primary consideration. Later applications will be considered only as long as openings exist.
The department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.
