The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher position to work with Dr. Alessandra Aloisi and collaborators, including Drs. Andrew Fox, Bethan James, and Jason Tumlinson, on observational studies of the multi-phase interstellar medium, chemical evolution, and stellar populations of nearby star-forming galaxies. This research will include analysis and interpretation of UV observations with the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph (COS) on the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and supporting optical ground-based observations. Part of the successful applicant's time may be available for independent research or new projects in related areas. The nominal start date is expected to be in Summer/Fall 2019, but other dates are negotiable. The initial appointment is for two years, with an expected renewal to a 3rd year subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Science, or related fields at the start of the post-doctoral researcher position. Expertize in one or more of the following areas is desirable: (a) UV/optical spectroscopy; (b) data reduction from space-based observatories; (c) interstellar medium studies; (d) feedback from stellar populations; (e) chemical evolution of galaxies. More important is the willingness to take on new projects, learn new skills, and work independently to bring these projects to fruition.
