The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), part of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian, invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in Dr. Mercedes López-Morales’ Research Group. The successful applicant will work on exoplanetary atmospheres studies, with focus on the analysis, modeling, and interpretation of data from ongoing ground-based and space-based surveys. The position is nominally for one year, renewable for up to three years. The nominal start date is August 1, 2021, but an earlier or later start is possible.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or have completed all the requirements necessary to obtain the degree) in astronomy, astrophysics, planetary science or a related field by the start date of the appointment. Candidates must also have working knowledge on exoplanetary atmospheres studies, including reduction, analysis, and/or modeling of spectroscopic data. They must also be comfortable working in a research group environment and as part of large collaborations, and with participation in observing runs. Experience coding in Python, Julia, or IDL will be preferred.
