Job Description

The Florida State University (FSU) Physics Department invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant (or Associate) Professor level, with a focus on optical to far-infrared space-based Observational Astronomy. The successful candidate is expected to lead a space-based observational program and take full advantage of major facilities such as NASA’s JWST and the upcoming Roman Space Telescope. The ideal candidate will add new expertise to the astrophysics group at FSU while connecting to existing strengths.

The Astrophysics group at FSU is comprised of 7 faculty, 16 graduate students, and 50 undergraduate students. Its research program is focused on discovering the origin of the chemical elements, elucidating the nature of dark energy, and cosmology. Key expertise in the group includes radiation- and magneto-hydrodynamical simulations, ground-based optical and NIR observations of transients and pulsating stars, and forefront programs on star, galaxy and structure formation and evolution. These efforts benefit from a broad network of national and international collaborations and observing programs making use of world-leading facilities such as JWST, HST, INTEGRAL, Swift, Gaia, LCO, VLT, ALMA and ACT.

Our Astrophysics research takes advantage of synergy with the other FSU groups in Nuclear and High Energy Physics, at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, and other FSU departments, such as Mathematics and Chemistry. This diverse range of collaborative expertise offers unique opportunities for groundbreaking research and discovery.

Interested candidates should apply at https://jobs.fsu.edu Job Opening ID 54271.
