The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Michigan invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position with Dr. Jon Miller, focusing on observational studies of accretion onto black holes across the mass scale and related feedback, and/or studies of neutron stars, with a particular emphasis on XRISM science.
Applicants must have completed their PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics before starting the position in September 2024, and have past experience with multiple observatories, multi-wavelength studies, time domain studies, and/or high-resolution X-ray spectra. Research interests that are forward-looking and suited to the recently launched XRISM mission are especially valued. The University of Michigan is a partner in the Magellan Project and the MDM observatory, and the ELT.
The total length of this position is expected to be three years. As per university-wide guidelines, appointments are in one year increments with the possibility of renewal, contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A full benefits package will be included.
