Post-doc fellowships in mm radio astronomy
Job Summary
Job Description
The LLAMA project at the Institute for Astronomy and Geophysics (IAG) at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) is offering three 2-years post-doc fellowships for researchers, preferentially with experience in mm observations. LLAMA is a Brazilian-Argentinean collaboration to construct and operate a mm/submm observatory, at 4800 m altitude, in the Andes, in the province of Salta, Argentina. He/she will participate in the commissioning of the 12 m antenna (pointing, holography, observing modes verification, calibration and early science observations). The commissioning is expected to start during the last months of 2017. The First Light instruments are heterodyne receivers operating at ALMA band-5 and 9.The postdoc can dedicate about 70% of his/her 2-year fellowship to his/her own research projects, based in São Paulo. His/her research should aim to make use of the LLAMA commissioning observations in the bands 5 and 9 (162-211 GHz and 600-720 GHZ respectively). Preferred areas are AGNs, Masers, Interstellar Medium and Astrochemistry, however there is some flexibility.
After the commissioning phase, he/she will benefit from observing time at the LLAMA radiotelescope in collaboration with other members of the team.
Besides the relevant qualifications, a successful high altitude medical examination is required.
The pos-doc fellowship will be paid by the research agency FAPESP, R$ 6.819,30 monthly. (1 dollar is 2.2 reais approximately) which is ok to live in Sao Paulo.
