Job Description

The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) in the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering (HWCOE) at the University of Florida invites applications for multiple full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor although, exceptional candidates at higher ranks will be considered. The positions have an anticipated start date of August 2023.

We are seeking candidates in the following areas:

Space Mechanics and/or human spaceflight whose areas of interest include but are not limited to the following:  space propulsion, space domain/space situational awareness (e.g., in cislunar/ex-GEO regions), or any related spacecraft/space science fields.

Combustion/Multi-Phase flow experimentalist.

Green Energy with a preference for hydrogen production and utilization.

Energy resiliency and security using AI-focused methods

The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the mechanical and aerospace engineering curricula; initiate and sustain externally sponsored research programs; recruit and supervise graduate students; and engage in service activities for the University and the profession. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in a related field by the start date. Dedication to excellence in research, teaching, and service, and evidence of scholarly achievements are required. The candidate should have a record of or demonstrate the potential for successful proposal writing, Ph.D. student mentoring, scholarship, and classroom teaching.

The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at the University of Florida (https://mae.ufl.edu/) has over 60 faculty members working in all aspects of mechanical and aerospace engineering and is expected to grow over the upcoming years.  The total student population is approximately 2500 with nearly 200 in the Ph.D. program.  The latest US News & World Report has MAE ranked 19 and 15 for the aerospace and mechanical engineering programs, respectively, among graduate engineering public universities in the US.    The University of Florida is the flagship campus of the State of Florida university system and is ranked as the #5 best public US university according to US News & World Report.
