Job Description

The School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science is seeking to appoint two Lecturers/Senior Lecturers. In particular, we are seeking new staff who can support our growing BSc and MSc Data Science teaching programmes, and therefore these positions would be suitable for astrophysicists with an interest in, and ability to teach, topics such as machine learning, applied statistics, visualisation, etc.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

You will undertake teaching/assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level in Data Science. Willingness and ability to contribute to teaching in other areas of Physics, Astronomy or Mathematics is desirable. You will also support learning through design and development of course materials including online content and undertaking necessary tutorial and administrative activities. You will be expected to contribute actively to the research interests of the School, supervise postgraduate research projects and apply for external funding to support your research and/or commercial activities.

For the role of Senior Lecturer, you will also undertake an administrative role in the School such as Module Leadership, assisting with programme management, or other similar duties, provide leadership in an aspect of research or commercial activities and undertake other duties as delegated by the Head of Department.

Skills and Experience:

You must have experience of working in Data Science, Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics or related areas within Higher Education or in a relevant sector, including a track record of research and proven experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. You must have a strong commitment to teaching, learning and student support and have the potential to attract external funding. You will have proficiency in English Language, with excellent oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications Required:

The role requires that you have obtained a PhD (or equivalent qualification), or are close to completion of PhD (no more than 3 months prior to viva) in a relevant subject area. An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.

Salary Scale:

UH7 Lecturer: £35,333-£42,155 pa; UH8 Senior Lecturer: £42,155-£53,353 pa dependent on skills and experience.
