POSTDOC IN STELLAR POPULATIONS, GALACTIC CENTER, ASTROMETRY, OR ADAPTIVE OPTICS

DESCRIPTION
The UC Berkeley Astronomy Department invites applicants for postdoctoral research positions to work with Dr. Jessica R. Lu and her research group in the areas of resolved stellar populations and/or adaptive optics.

Research areas currently being pursued by the group include: (1) star/cluster formation and evolution in massive young clusters in the Galactic center and disk, (2) astrometric microlensing, (3) adaptive optics instrumentation and PSF reconstruction methods, and (4) astrometry methods
and instrumentation. Candidates in all areas of stellar populations and optical/infrared instrumentation and analysis methods are encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate with other members of the Galactic Center Group (headquartered at UCLA), adaptive optics instrument teams at the W. M. Keck Observatory, TMT, and the UH Institute for Astronomy, and the WFIRST Milky Way science investigation team. The successful applicant will also have the opportunity to mentor students, interact with UC Berkeley faculty, design and implement new lab experiments, and participate in observing programs using University of California facilities (Keck and Lick).

The position, starting in 2017 (Spring or Fall), is for two years, full time, with renewal for a third year contingent on performance and funding.

Basic/Minimum Qualification (at the time of application): The minimum qualification required to be considered an applicant for the position is the completion of all PhD degree (or equivalent degree) requirements in astrophysics, physics or related fields, except the dissertation.
Additional Qualification (by the start date): A PhD degree (or equivalent degree) in astrophysics, physics, or related fields is required by the start date.

Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $48,216 - $58,560, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
