The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (RSAA) at Australian National University invites applications for a 3-year Postdoctoral/Research Fellowship in stellar physics and Galactic archaeology in the research group of Prof. Martin Asplund.
We seek an enthusiastic early career researcher with an exciting research program in any field of stellar physics and Galactic archaeology. In particular we welcome candidates with expertise in stellar atmosphere modelling, stellar abundance analyses and/or large-scale Galactic spectroscopic surveys to complement and enhance our ongoing internationally leading programs in stellar astrophysics, origin of the elements, and the evolution of the Milky Way halo, disk, and bulge. The work of the Postdoctoral/Research Fellow can be either observational, theoretical or computational in nature. The successful applicants will have the freedom to pursue an independent research program.
The successful candidate will be part of the Galactic Archaeology and Stellar Physics research group at ANU. The group currently consists of four professors, three ARC Future Fellows, five postdocs and ten PhD/MSc research students, and has an extensive network of national and international collaborators. The group is simultaneously one of the largest users of 6-10m telescopes and supercomputing facilities in Australia. ANU astronomers have direct access to ESO telescopes at Paranal and La Silla, and the 4m Anglo-Australian Telescope in addition to telescopes owned by ANU (SkyMapper, 2.3m). ANU is a member of the Giant Magellan Telescope consortium. ANU scientists have privileged partner access to world-class NCI supercomputing facilities. We play a leading role in the GALAH survey and is part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for All-Sky Astrophysics in 3D (ASTRO3D).
