The Leibniz-Institute for Astrophysics Potsdam (AlP) invites applications for postdoctoral associate positions in the area of Galactic dynamics/Galactic archaeology and resolved stellar populations in nearby galaxies.
The candidates are expected to work on the scientific exploitation of data accumulated by major projects with AIP such as RAVE, APOGEE, VMC and GHOSTS, and to contribute to the preparatory work for 4MOST consortium surveys.
Applicants should hold a degree in astronomy and are expected to have solid experience in Galactic dynamics/Galactic archeology or resolved stellar populations. Familiarity with data management and organization would be an asset.
The AIP is located in the beautiful Potsdam/Babelsberg area, at the southwestern border of the Berlin metropolitan area. About 130 scientists work on a variety of astrophysical topics, ranging from stellar activity to
extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology. Potsdam is also the home of the Albert-Einstein-Institute for Gravitational Physics, the Physics & Astronomy department of Potsdam University and several other research institutions.
Starting summer or fall 2020, the initial appointment will be made for 2 years, with a possible extension for a 3rd year. The salary will be based on the German public service scale (TV-L).
