Job Description

The Department of Astronomy in the College of Arts and Sciences at The Ohio State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in our Imaging Sciences Laboratory. We seek candidates working in the field of astronomical instrumentation to work with faculty, students, and ISL staff on the definition, design, analysis, development, construction, and commissioning of advanced astronomical instruments. Desired skills include to detector systems, optical design and analysis, electronics, vacuum systems, cryogenic systems, fiber optics, opto-mechanical systems, software, and all aspects of the operation of astronomical instruments used for professional research in observational astronomy.  Appointment is for three years, with possibility of transition to a long-term research staff position.

Qualified applicants are required to have or be in the process of completing a Ph. D. in Astronomy or Physics. The successful applicant must have completed their Ph.D. before assuming the position. Candidates should have a record of accomplishment in astronomical instrumentation development, a strong research background, and demonstrated potential in instrumentation.  We seek applications with a broad range of experience covering all phases of instrumentation activities . Appointment is contingent on the university’s verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or university policies, including but not limited to a criminal background check.
