Bustling Universe Radio Survey Telescope in Taiwan (BURSTT) is a new radio telescope dedicated to detecting fast radio bursts (FRBs). BURSTT seeks candidates for a postdoctoral position under the project. The successful candidate will contribute to (i) research programs that aim to study FRBs and related science or (ii) technical developments of BURSTT including beam forming, RFI removal, etc. The successful candidate will gain preferential access to the initial BURSTT data. Candidates with relevant backgrounds and observational expertise are encouraged to apply, although all exceptional candidates in theoretical and numerical astrophysics will be considered.

Applicants can select a preferable supervisor and working institution from the following list. The expertise of each supervisor is indicated in the parenthesis.

-Tetsuya Hashimoto at National Chung Hsing University (FRB statistics/host galaxy/cosmic probes)

-Chin-Ping Hu at National Changhua University of Education (FRB progenitor/compact objects)

-Tomotsugu Goto at National Tsing Hua University (FRBs as cosmic probes/cosmology)

-Pisin Chen at National Taiwan University (BURSTT technical development/site investigation)

-Jiwoo Nam at National Taiwan University (BURSTT technical development/site investigation)

-Ue-Li Pen at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (FRB theory/observation/BURSTT development)

-Ming-Tang Chen at Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (Back-end development/outrigger station in Hawaii)

The appointment will initially be for three years, with an extension contingent on research performance and grant situation. Applicants should send (1) a cover letter, (2) CV, (3) publication list, (4) research achievement (max. 2 pages), (5) research plan (max. 1 page), and (6) contact information for 3 references as a single PDF to Ms. Teresa Shao ([email protected]) by November 30, 2022.

BURSTT is funded by National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan and is committed to an inclusive, supportive working environment that values equality, diversity, and internationalism.  Informal inquiries can be made to Tetsuya Hashimoto ([email protected]).
