Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in high redshift observational galaxy formation and evolution at UMass Amherst.  The successful applicant will work with Prof. Kate Whitaker, with a focus on the analysis of space- and ground-based data from the REQUIEM survey (requiem-galaxies.com); previous experience with HST data is desirable, but not necessary. The Five College Astronomy Department offers a vibrant and collegial atmosphere. The successful candidate will be able to spend a fraction of their time on independent research, as well as engage in local opportunities for research mentoring, teaching, and outreach, as desired, and potential new collaborations with the Cosmic Dawn Center in Copenhagen. The initial appointment is for one year, renewable for an additional two years contingent upon satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funds. The appointment is expected to start on or around Sept. 1, 2020, and requires the completion of a PhD in Astronomy, Physics, or related field.

Applications should include a single PDF file containing curriculum vitae, publication list, summary of past research accomplishments (3 page limit), and current research interests (1-3 pages). Applicants should arrange for 3 professional letters of reference to be sent directly to the email address below. Applications received by January 3, 2020 will be given full consideration.
