Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, to work on the scientific exploitation of Gaia data as well as in the validation of future data releases from the mission. Candidates with expertise in Galactic structure, dynamics or Galactic archaeology are encouraged to apply.

The candidate will be embedded Prof. Amina Helmi's research group. S/he will spend 20-30% of the time on the statistical validation of Gaia data, as part of Coordination Unit 9 (CU9) of the Gaia Data Processing and Analysis Consortium (DPAC).  S/he will also have the opportunity to be involved in preparations and exploitation of the WEAVE and 4MOST projects in the context of Gaia follow-up.

The appointment is for 2 years, with a preferred starting date in September 2019 but earlier or later dates can be negotiated. The position comes with a competitive salary, funding for travel and computer resources, and full social benefits.
