Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position at the Kavli Institute of Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (KIPAC) at Stanford University and the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory with a focus on data analysis and forecasting for cosmic microwave background (CMB) surveys.

We seek candidates with experience in cosmology analysis of CMB data in areas of lensing/delensing, cross-correlations with external datasets, and/or power spectrum/higher point statistics. Candidates with experience tackling instrumental and astrophysical systematics, deploying machine-learning techniques, and/or building software pipelines with teams are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will have ample opportunities to test their ideas on data from the South Pole Telescope and the BICEP/Keck Array telescopes, and to make significant contributions to the planning of the next-generation CMB experiment, CMB-S4. They will work with CMB scientists in the aforementioned collaborations and interact with the local CMB and cosmology groups. KIPAC provides a stimulating intellectual environment for interactions with scientists pursuing observational, experimental, computational, and theoretical research.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in physics or astrophysics. The position is available January 1, 2021 and expected to be filled no later than Summer/Fall 2021. The positions offer excellent benefits (https://postdocbenefits.stanford.edu) and salary and are generally made for a term of three years.

Applicants should apply at the AJO site for KIPAC Postdoctoral Fellowships, and indicate an interest in the CMB position in the checkbox when they apply. Application materials should be submitted at https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/16671. Review of applications will begin Friday, October 30, 2020. For further information regarding the positions, please contact Dr. Kimmy Wu ([email protected]). Additionally, several faculty members and staff scientists are available to advise on this and related searches at KIPAC: Dr. Zeeshan Ahmed ([email protected]), Professor Steven Allen (swa@stanford),  Professor Chao-Lin Kuo ([email protected]), and Professor Risa Wechsler ([email protected]).

Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory are affirmative action and equal opportunity employers, committed to increasing the diversity of their workforces. We encourage applications from candidates from groups that are underrepresented in astrophysics and cosmology or who will bring additional dimensions to Stanford and SLAC’s research and educational missions.
