Research Engineer/Research Scientist/Sr. Research Scientist
Support instrument teams and research programs with their optical and detector needs, as well as the scientific output of those teams; work with teams on far-UV to mid-IR space- and ground-based astrophysics and planetary instruments during all phases of a project, including: concept initiation, proposal development, design, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and data analysis; work with internal research and development teams on novel detector and remote sensing ideas.
Education/Experience:
Requires a MS degree in Astronomy/Astrophysics or Physics with at least a 3.0 GPA. MS requires 2+ years of experience. PhD strongly preferred. Must be able to communicate and interact within a high-paced team environment; scientific background in remote sensing is required; experience in instrument development and scientific analysis of data in any of the following wavelength regimes: far-UV, mid-UV, near-IR, or mid-IR. Experience in astronomical or planetary instrumentation is a major factor for consideration; must be able to clearly communicate technical, scientific, and engineering ideas in written form; experience in optical design with Zemax, CODEV, or ASAP is optional, but preferred. A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section.
