Job Description

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a postdoctoral position in experimental cosmology. The successful candidate will join the research group of Prof. Jeff Filippini, focusing on one of the following efforts:

  1. Cryogenic camera development and deployment for the Terahertz Intensity Mapper (TIM), a balloon-borne spectrometer that will make a path-breaking measurement of star formation history using line-intensity mapping.
  2. Development of next-generation cosmic microwave background instruments, CMB-S4 and Taurus (a new ultra-long-duration balloon mission to measure reionization and Galactic foregrounds).

The successful candidate may also participate in the group's broader analysis and instrumentation efforts, and in their own related projects.

Candidates are expected to have earned a Ph.D. in Physics or Astronomy by fall 2022, to be experienced with relevant instrumentation and analysis techniques, and to have strong oral and written communication skills. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, publication list, brief description of research interests, and contact information for three references. Submission by January 7, 2022 is strongly preferred, but the position will remain open until filled.
