Job Description

CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science (CASS) is looking for an enthusiastic Postdoctoral Fellow to join the vibrant and diverse CASS Astrophysics Group. The Fellow will work closely with Dr B. Koribalski and her team on the ASKAP HI All Sky Survey (WALLABY), lead critical developments of the custom ASKAP data processing pipeline running on the Pawsey Supercomputers, setup and carry out ASKAP Early Science HI observations, analyse the huge data volumes, and address the ASKAP Big Data challenges by developing cutting-edge analysis and visusalisation tools. Furthermore, the Fellow will strongly contribute to the operations and support of the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF).

The Fellow will work with OCE Science Leader Dr B. Koribalski and her research group, key members of the WALLABY team and the ASKAP computing team. With ASKAP Early Science scheduled for 2016/7, with at least twelve wide-field Phased-Array Feeds (PAFs) on ASKAP, the Fellow will study the hydrogen content of galaxies as a function of environment and cosmic time. The Fellow will be among the first to carry out original research in the field of galaxy evolution using ASKAP PAFs and contribute to the suite of visualization tools for CSIRO’s ASKAP Science Data Archive (CASDA).
