Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen. Candidates with expertise in theoretical aspects of near-field cosmology, including dynamical modeling or numerical simulations, are particularly encouraged to apply.

The successful applicant will work with Prof. Amina Helmi and her vibrant research group, and will have the opportunity to be involved in the scientific exploitation of the Gaia mission and in preparations for the WEAVE and 4MOST surveys.  The appointee can also take part in the (co-)supervision of bachelor, master and PhD students if so desired. The Kapteyn Institute offers a stimulating environment with scientific staff working on a variety of topics ranging from the formation of planets to near- and far-field cosmology.

The appointment will be for a period of three years, and in the case of exceptional candidates, up to 4 years, in both cases contingent on performance. The preferred starting date is in the fall of 2021 but dates can be negotiated. The position comes with a competitive salary, generous funding for travel and computer resources, and full social benefits.

Applicants should send via e-mail a single PDF including a CV, a publication list and statement of research interests and experience. They should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent separately via e-mail. Applications received by December 21st, 2020 will receive full consideration, but the search will continue until the position is filled.
