Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2018. We seek candidates with research interests at the intersection between particle/astroparticle physics and observational astronomy, who also have experience with instrumentation and/or detectors. Involvement with the LSST or similar surveys is preferred. UNM faculty in these disciplines work on a broad array of topics ranging from particle/astroparticle physics (including ATLAS, dark matter searches, gamma rays, neutrinos) to astronomy (galaxy evolution, AGNs, transients, and the epoch of reionization, using the LWA, VLA, and VLBA, among others). UNM seeks a candidate whose research experience and interests complement these areas.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field by date of appointment and Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Candidates will be evaluated on the basis of their potential contribution to research, and to teaching physics and astronomy classes at all levels. UNM is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities. For complete job requirements and to apply, please go to https://hr.unm.edu/unmjobs, (posting number 2258).

A complete application consists of a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, a statement of research interests and goals, and a statement of teaching interests and philosophy. Applicants should arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent according to the special instructions located in the posting at the above website. For best consideration, applications and letters of reference must be received by November 15, 2017; however, applications will be accepted until the position is filled. Interviews will start in January 2018. Any enquiries should be directed to Professor Dinesh Loomba, Search Committee Chair, at [email protected].
