Job Description

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics (https://www.astro.ucsc.edu/) at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar, in collaboration with Professors Brant Robertson and Piero Madau. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct forefront research on topics related to galaxy formation, large-scale structure, and wide-area extragalactic surveys. The successful candidate will join the WFIRST Extragalactic Potential Observations Science Investigation Team, and help develop the extragalactic science case for both wide-area and ultradeep surveys with WFIRST.

We encourage applications from candidates with theoretical expertise in galaxy formation or extragalactic cosmology, or observers experienced in the analysis of large survey datasets. The position requires that the Postdoctoral Scholar successfully work independently and collegially in a team environment.

RANK: Postdoctoral Scholar

SALARY: $54,228 – $58,560, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in Astronomy or Physics.

POSITION AVAILABLE: September 1, 2018 (negotiable)

TERM OF APPOINTMENT: Initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for a total of three years; with annual reappointment contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. For appointments within the University of California, a total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at other institutions.
