Job Description

We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the group of Professor Marcelle Soares-Santos.

The group focuses on cosmological research using multi-messenger astrophysical probes and leads observational and instrumentation programs. As members of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Dark Energy Science Collaboration (LSST DESC) we pursue a discovery program for electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave events detected by the LIGO-Virgo Collaboration (LVC) and use selected LVC events as standard sirens to measure the Hubble constant. We further perform precision cosmology measurements using clusters of galaxies and weak gravitational lensing. Hardware activities include commissioning of the LSST camera commissioning and R&D for future spectroscopic dark energy survey instruments.

The successful applicant is expected to contribute strongly to science and hardware of the LSST and beyond-LSST efforts. Candidates with either a scientific or technical background are welcome to apply.

The appointment will be for three years, with start date at earliest convenience and possible extensions pending satisfactory performance in annual reviews. Candidates are expected to hold a doctoral degree in Physics, Astronomy or a related field by the time the appointment starts. Applications from members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged.

Evaluation of applications will begin on January 15, 2019. The position will remain open until filled. Applicants should send a cover letter, a CV including a list of publications, and a statement of research interests via the AJO link. Three reference letters should also be uploaded.

The position comes with a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, and retirement.
