Job Description

Post-doctoral fellowship - Direct collapse black holes with JWST

Duration: 2 years

The Division of Astronomy and Space Physics, Department of Physics and Astronomy, Uppsala University conducts research in observational and theoretical astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology: galaxies and cosmology, exoplanets, stellar physics, atomic physics, and instrumentation. The Galaxies and Cosmology group is involved in several international projects related to the high-redshift Universe, including research on the first stars, galaxies and black holes. A post-doctoral researcher is sought to conduct research on observational searches for direct-collapse black holes at redshift z > 6, using the James Webb Space Telescope and auxiliary data from other wavelengths (primarily X-rays). The researcher will work together with Associate Professor Erik Zackrisson and collaborators. The fellowship is financed by a grant from the Olle Engkvist foundations in the form of a tax-free stipend.Funding for travel, publication costs and computer equipment is also available. The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in astronomy, or equivalent, obtained less than six years ago by the starting date. A strong background in observational astronomy is required. Previous experience of high-redshift astronomy, SED fitting, photometry, JWST and X-ray data will be advantageous.

The application, by e-mail, should include a statement of prior research experience (max. 3 pp), CV and a list of publications. Two letters of recommendation should be submitted by e-mail by the referees directly. Apply by Oct 1 for full consideration; will remain open until filled.
