DESY is one of the world’s leading research centres for photon science, particle and astroparticle physics as well as accelerator physics.

The position
The Director for Accelerators leads the Machine M-Division with about 600 scientists, engineers and technicians and will – as a member of the Board of Directors – decisively take part in shaping the overall laboratory strategy and its execution. The M-Division is responsible for the operation and development of the PETRA-III,
FLASH and European XFEL accelerators and for conducting a worldwide leading R&D program in accelerator physics and technology (ARD).
The upgrade of FLASH and of PETRA-III towards ultra-low emittance, the preparation of an upgrade of the superconducting XFEL LINAC as well as the development of advanced high-gradient acceleration concepts for future compact facilities are at the core of DESY´s mid- and long-term strategy.
Internationally very well recognized scientists with a record of excellence in the field of accelerator physics and/or technology and who have demonstrated leadership in the environment of a larger scientific laboratory are invited to apply.
