Job Announcement Text:

Applications are now being accepted for a Postdoctoral Associate, to work on data analysis and physical interpretation of a diverse set of multiwavelength observations of galaxies with strong line emission. The work will be done at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and the position is funded through the Catholic University of America (CUA) and the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Sciences & Technology II (CRESST II).

The work involves analysis of observations from HST, Chandra, SOFIA, and ground-based optical and radio observations of Green Pea galaxies at redshifts from 0.02 to 0.3. They also include HST and ground-based optical and near infrared observations of emission line galaxies at higher redshifts. This is initially a one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension for up to two more years depending on performance and funding availability.

Applicants should have completed all requirements for a Ph.D in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related discipline prior to starting the position. Candidates with a wide range of background in astronomy will be considered. Expertise in data analysis for the data sets mentioned above is valuable, and a proven track record of refereed publications is desirable.

The position will remain open until filled. Applications received by August 14, 2020 will receive full consideration. Applicants should provide a cover letter, a CV, a 1-2 page statement of research interests, a list of publications, and contact information for three references.

Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. A start date as soon as possible can be arranged. Restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic may require that the successful candidate initially work remotely.

For more information about the proposed research, contact Dr. Sangeeta Malhotra ([email protected]), and Dr. James Rhoads ([email protected]). For information on CRESST II or CUA, contact Dr. Tommy Wiklind ([email protected]). We are committed to building a diverse group and encourage applications from women, racial and ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans.
