Job Announcement Text:

The  DECam eROSITA Survey (DeROSITAS) collaboration  invite for applications for sponsorship to the three year program FONDECYT Postdoctoral Fellowships 2019.

The DeROSITAS collaboration is a joint effort between scientists from Universidad de La Serena, Universidad de Valparaíso, the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory  (CTIO), Gemini Observatory, and the German eROSITA Consortium, to carry out joint scientific analysis using eROSITA X-ray data and multi-wavelength data, mainly optical imaging data obtained with the Dark Energy Camera (DECam).

The research carried out by DeROSITAS collaborators in Chile is focused on galaxy evolution in clusters, AGN, and observational cosmology. The successful applicants are expected to play a leading role in the group’s key projects as well as to pursue independent projects of their own. The DeROSITAS group is interested in: i) studying the evolution of clusters and their galaxy content as a function of the clusters’ dynamical state, ii) the role of low mass galaxy clusters in galaxy morphological evolution, and iii) the nature of galaxies in transition from the field to the cluster core over the past 8 Gyrs.  The successful applicants will have access to the Chilean time on facilities located in the country.

The University of La Serena’s Astronomy Group consists of 16 professors and postdocs, and is growing at a rapid pace. We have a 5 year old graduate program with 8 students currently. Four new full professors have joined the staff in the last 3 years. La Serena is host to several major observatories including the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory, SOAR observatory, Gemini Observatory, and Las Campanas Observatory providing opportunities to interact with a wide number of astronomers.

Applications to the fellowships are submitted with the sponsorship of a faculty member and early coordination is required.  Interested applicants should send the Curriculum Vitae with a list of relevant publications, a research statement (max. 3 pages), and 2 reference letters to be sent directly by the referees. The deadline for the application is July 31.
