Job Description

The University of the Virgin Islands is advertising for one tenure-track faculty position, subject to the availability of funding. This position is associated with the University’s new B.S. in physics program. The successful candidate will be expected to carry out an independent research program in addition to teaching across the curriculum. The University’s current research focus is in astrophysics, particularly with an interest in transient phenomena (GRBs, AGN flares, CVs, etc) but candidates with experience and research interests in all fields of physics are encouraged to apply. The University’s Etelman Observatory houses a robotically controlled 0.5m telescope which is used for faculty and student research projects as well as teaching activities associated with the physics major and general education courses.

 

Required Qualifications

PhD in physics or a related field

 

Preferred Qualifications

Post-doctoral work and/or previous university teaching experience

Advertised Job Duties

Teaching across the curriculum in the UVI B.S. physics program includes teaching introductory as well as junior-senior level courses. The selected applicant is expected to carry on a program of independent research, mentor undergraduate students and involve them in their research work, as well as participate in university service and community outreach activities.
