Postdocs positions on stellar activity and chemical abundances

Applications are invited for two FAPESP postdoctoral fellowships: (i) on stellar activity based on spot modeling at the group of Prof. Adriana Valio (CRAAM/Univ. Presb. Mackenzie), (ii) on chemical abundances at the group of Prof. Jorge Melendez (Astronomy Department/Univ. Sao Paulo, USP). Both institutions are located in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The postdoctoral scholar on stellar activity will study stellar rotation and stellar activity through characterization of spots and faculae using light curves, in particular during exoplanet transits, as well as stellar flares. The research will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Adriana Valio at CRAAM/Mackenzie. The postdoc on chemical abundances will perform high precision abundance studies of solar type stars using high-resolution high-S/N spectra. The research will be conducted under the supervision of Prof. Jorge Melendez at USP. Candidates must have previous experience on subjects related to the announced positions, and should hold a PhD granted between 2016/6 - 2022/6. The fellows can pursue an independent research program for up to half of his/her time. The position is funded by FAPESP for 2 years and it may be possible to extend the fellowship for a third year. The starting date is between August to December 2022. Monthly salary (tax free) is R$8479 (about US$1780). The postdoc research/travel budget is R$10175 per year. Airfare + R$8479 (to help with relocation) will be paid for fellows from abroad.
