The Department of Astronomy at the University of Michigan invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin in August 2024. This appointment will be at the level of Assistant Professor. Successful candidates could focus on any area of astronomy and astrophysics, although the department will prioritize candidates having program synergy with future Extremely Large Telescopes (ELTs).  The University of Michigan (UM) is a partner in several European ELT instrument projects, in particular, METIS, HARMONI, MOSAIC, and ANDES.  Current research facilities available to the successful applicant include the twin Magellan 6.5-m telescopes in Chile, the MDM 1.3-m and 2.4-m telescopes on Kitt Peak, and UM’s Great Lakes high-performance computing facilities. UM supports excellence in pedagogy and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, the National Center for Institutional Diversity and the Office of DEI.
