Job Description

National Centre for Nuclear Research opens competition for five doctoral scholarships in the Division of Astrophysics (https://www.ncbj.gov.pl/bp4).

Division of Astrophysics of the NCBJ specializes, among other things, in different aspects of extragalactic astrophysics, observational cosmology and gravitational wave astrophysics. We take part in a number of astrophysical big data projects (VIPERS, HELP, V. Rubin Observatory). We provide a friendly and lively scientific environment. We are offering five PhD topics:

  1. Gravitational lensing of the cosmic microwave background (Supervisor: Paweł Bielewicz)
  2. New generation of gravitational wave detectors and its potential for testing cosmology and fundamental physics (Supervisor: Marek Biesiada)
  3. Deep and machine learning methods for searching for optical counterparts to gravitational wave events (Supervisor: Adam Zadrożny, prof. dr hab. Andrzej Królak)
  4. HELP to find Hot DOGs (Supervisor:Katarzyna Małek)
  5. Machine learning techniques for present day and future big cosmological surveys (Supervisor: Agnieszka Pollo)

A more detailed description of each topic can be found on the PhD School webpage: http://gradschool.ncbj.gov.pl/physics-thesis-topics-for-october-2020/ . We encourage you to also ask supervisors of the specific projects if something is unclear.

The successful candidates have to qualify for doctoral studies at NCBJ Graduate School of Physics and Chemistry (send the application in time and pass the exam).  All detailed requirements and documents can be found here: gradschool NCBJ
