Job Description

Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO) is seeking to fill a number of postdoctoral positions in any area of observational, theoretical, and computational astrophysics. Research fields include AGNs and high energy astrophysics, galaxy formation and evolution, cosmology, the structure and evolution of the Milky Way, galactic dynamics, numerical astrophysics, radio astrophysics, and extra-solar planets. Members of the institute are actively involved in other important international and domestic projects such as SDSS-IV, LSST, LAMOST, HXMT, and FAST. The astrophysics division employs a mix of Chinese and international researchers, including 45 faculty members, 16 postdocs, and 65 PhD students. SHAO belongs to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which provides a diverse setting and research facilities. The institute also possesses its own facilities such as the 65-m radio telescope and excellent computational facilities. In addition, SHAO is planning to construct the SKA science centre for Asia.

The postdoctoral fellowships are intended for active young researchers of all nationalities, and successful applicants are expected to work with one or more of the faculty members listed in the website given above. The appointment is awarded for two years initially, extendable for up to five years, and the start date is flexible. The salary is dependent on qualification and experience.
