Job Description

The department of Steward Observatory seeks to fill the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate to work within the Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics division.

The Xtreme Astrophysics Group at the Steward Observatory at the University of Arizona invites applications for one or two Postdoctoral Research Fellowship positions in Theoretical and Computational Astrophysics. Candidates with a strong record in the areas of computational hydrodynamics and MHD, PIC, compact object astrophysics, general relativity, and science related to the Event Horizon Telescope will be strongly considered. The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to work in the Xtreme Astrophysics group (http://xtreme.as.arizona.edu) as well as with numerous faculty members carrying out theoretical and observational research.

The successful candidate(s) will have access to extensive computational resources that are acquired and renewed on an ongoing basis by members of the Steward theory group. The fellow will also be encouraged to join the Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration and the interdisciplinary Theoretical Astrophysics Program (TAP) that also includes members of both the Lunar and Planetary Laboratory and the Physics Department.

The position is for 2 years, renewable for a third year. The fellow will receive an annual research fund in addition to a stipend for the duration of the position. Candidates must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. in physics, astrophysics, astronomy, or a related field before the commencement of the position in Summer or Fall 2018.
