Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Computational Astrophysics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Notre Dame. The applicant should have a background in computational astrophysics with a firm grasp of scientific computing, parallel supercomputing and modern programming languages in addition to depth in an astrophysical sub-area of specialization. All areas of astrophysics are welcome, but we might have a specific interest in star formation, planet formation, accretion physics, interstellar medium, dynamos, stellar winds, supernovae, black-holes, jets or relativistic astrophysics. We also have a strong interest in numerical methods for computational hydrodynamics and MHD, relativistic MHD and radiative physics. The group has access to substantial computer resources at the national level and also has access to a large on-campus cluster.

Applicants who are at least close to completing a Ph.D. should send a statement of research interest and a current CV to [email protected]. Three letters of recommendation should also be sent to the same email address by senior scientists who are familiar with the applicant’s scientific research. The salary is competitive and the benefits at the university are excellent. Applications received before February 1, 2024 will be fully considered, with late applications considered as much as possible.
