Job Announcement Text:

Bucknell University's Department of Physics & Astronomy invites interested candidates to apply for two Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2018-19 academic year, beginning in August 2018. These positions will be for one year, renewable for a second upon mutual agreement between the department and the VAP. The annual teaching load for a VAP is six courses or their equivalent per year, spread over two semesters. By the start date of the position, candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. or be ABD in physics or a related field. Evidence for potential in teaching excellence is important.

For additional information and to apply, please visit Bucknell's career site (careers.bucknell.edu). The application should include a cover letter, C.V., teaching statement, and three confidential letters of recommendation. Applications will only be accepted online. Questions about the position should be addressed via email to Professor Michele Thornley at [email protected]. The review of applications will begin on March 15, 2018 and continue until the position is filled.

Bucknell University is a private, highly selective national University where liberal arts and strong professional programs in engineering, business, education, and music complement each other. The Department of Physics & Astronomy is a fully undergraduate department with 14 tenured and tenure-track faculty, and support provided by two technical staff, one lab coordinator, and one administrative assistant. Typically, 10-15 physics majors graduate per year, and we offer a range of introductory courses that are taken by students majoring in all math and science disciplines in the College of Arts & Sciences, all of the students in the College of Engineering, and by students from all majors in a liberal arts environment.

Bucknell University, an EEOC Employer, believes that students learn best in a diverse, inclusive community, and is therefore committed to academic excellence through diversity in its faculty, staff, and students. We seek candidates who are committed to Bucknell's efforts to create a climate that fosters the growth and development of a diverse student body, and we welcome applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in higher education.
