Job Description

The Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST), a Chinese mega-science facility built by the National Astronomical Observatories (NAOC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), has achieved its first-light on September 25, 2016. The FAST science teams in NAOC, e.g. the ISM Evolution and Star Formation group (http://ism.bao.ac.cn/en/), are recruiting research staffs in all fields related to FAST, e.g. pulsar astronomy, galaxy evolution, Galactic ISM, Complex Organic Molecules (COMs), and digital processing. The FAST science department and ISM group are managing one International Partnership Program, participating in two CAS Strategic Priority Research Programs (Pilot B), leading the CAS Interdisciplinary Innovation Team involving three universities, and is also supporting various FAST science related activities, including collaboration through the Australia-ChinA ConsortiuM for Astrophysical Research (ACAMAR), FAST-LIGO collaboration, etc. We also sponsored successful applications to various national and CAS career-award programs, including the Overseas High-level Talent Program (Qianren and Qingnian Qianren) and the CAS Talent Program (Bairen), all of which provide startup package totaling more than 2 million RMB.


To develop expertise required for FAST, we are now hiring up to 3 permanent staffs.  Candidates should have cognizance of the broad context and forward-looking capabilities. The successful fellows will have opportunities to participate in the commissioning of FAST and drive his/her related projects and will also get support through NAOC to apply for additional startup grants, including those aforementioned.
