The Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment Fast Radio Burst (FRB) Project (see www.chime-experiment.ca) seeks applications for one or two postdoctoral positions to focus on developing VLBI capability for the localization of radio transients detected by the CHIME/FRB instrument.
A successful candidate will hold a PhD and have published in a relevant field, including but not limited to observational FRB detection, Very Long Baseline Interferometry, pulsar astronomy, and general radio astronomy. The candidate must be technically minded, have strong programming skills, be goal oriented, a strong communicator, and able to work well in a team. Instrumentalists and observers are encouraged to apply.
The postdoc(s) will be based at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, in the Department of Physics and McGill Space Institute. The position may require frequent travel to telescope sites and partner institutions.
As part of this position, the successful candidate will also be an active member in the McGill Space Institute and in the Department of Physics, participating in regular group meetings, attending and participating in MSI and departmental discussions and talks, as well as assisting in the mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students. Participation in organization and running of outreach events as part of our active AstroMcGill program is encouraged but not required.
The position may commence immediately (start date is negotiable). Salary will be commensurate with experience and be competitive with leading international research centers. Review of applications will begin November 16, 2019.
