Job Description

The School of Mathematics, Statistics & Physics at Newcastle University is looking to hire a Research Assistant/Associate to work with Prof. Tami Rogers and Dr. Paul Bushby on the Leverhulme awarded grant entitled: “Imhomogeneous MHD in hot Jupiter Atmospheres”. The goal of this project is to understand how the variable conductivity, driven by the asymmetric day-night heating, affects the atmospheric winds and potential ohmic heating.

You will be required to understand basic hydrodynamics and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD), adapt and run numerical MHD code, communicate science well and work effectively in a group. Demonstrated experience doing all of these tasks is required for shortlisting. You will have numerical programming skills, good scientific writing and excellent oral communication. The post holder will work with the PI, Dr. Tamara Rogers, CoI Dr. Paul Bushby and a PhD student working on a similar topic.

This post is fixed term for up to 29.5 months.
