Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the Kapteyn Astronomical Institute of the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, to work on hydrodynamic simulations of satellites interacting with the circumgalactic medium of the Milky Way. The work will exploit the new proper motions and orbits determined with ESA/Gaia.
The candidate will join the group of Prof. Filippo Fraternali whose members work on observational and theoretical aspects of galaxy dynamics, galaxy evolution and gas flows to/from galaxies. Research areas at the Kapteyn Institute range from the formation of planets to high-z galaxies and cosmology. The large number of PhD students and postdocs contribute to create a vibrant and stimulating environment.
The postdoc position is funded by the Netherlands Research School for Astronomy (NOVA). The appointment is initially for 2 years, renewable for a third year. The starting date is flexible between March 2019 and December 2019. The position comes with a competitive salary and full social benefits.
Applicants should have completed their PhD in Astronomy/Astrophysics or a closely related area prior to commencing. A complete application includes: cover letter, CV, publication list and a two-page statement of research experience and interests to be sent by email to email@example.com.
