Post-Doctoral Research in Transiting Exoplanet Studies-#02958

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) invites applications for a post-doctoral researcher position to work with Dr. Kevin Stevenson and collaborators, including Drs. Jeff Valenti, Hannah Wakeford, and David Sing, on observational studies and atmospheric characterization of transiting exoplanets. This research will include data reduction, analysis, and interpretation of near-infrared (NIR) observations with the Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes. Part of the time will be available for observation planning and support for the James Webb Space Telescope, independent research, and/or new projects in related areas. The nominal start date is Spring/Summer 2019. The initial appointment is for two years, with possible renewals subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding.

Applicants shall hold a Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Physics, Planetary Science, or related fields at the start of the position. Expertise in one or more of the following areas in desirable:

Optical/NIR photometry and spectroscopy;

Reduction and analysis of time-series data; and

Observation planning with space-based observatories.

Applicants should also be willing to pursue new projects, learn new skills, and work independently to bring these projects to fruition.
