We are seeking a mid-senior level career scientist who will take an active role as a leader and program developer in the exploration of the dark sector of the Universe – dark matter and dark energy. The successful candidate will also contribute to the formulation and development of mission and instrument concepts, science analysis plans, and science-program management. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program, including leading in funding support efforts; and will have a significant record of publications with impact upon techniques for conducting proposed large scale cosmology surveys such as WFIRST, Euclid, and LSST. The JPL dark sector is playing a leading role in the development of the NASA WFIRST mission, ESA’s Euclid mission, and the SuperBIT balloon campaign. also have significant interest in participation in ground based surveys including DES, HSC and LSST, particularly to further build joint-processing analysis strategy and implementation expertise. You will also work closely with JPL’s National Security Program Office.
We require a Ph.D. in astrophysics or a related field with typically a minimum of five years related experience and a record of high-impact publications in dark matter and dark energy science, especially analytical and numerical methods related to joint interpretations of multi-probe data from large scale surveys. The candidate should also have knowledge of astronomical detectors and forward modeling of observations at the pixel level. The candidate is expected to have demonstrated the ability to take initiative in collaborating and leading collaborative research efforts with dark sector scientists, to have experience leading technical research activity involving multiple personnel, and to demonstrate effective presentation and communication skills. An active TS/SCI Security Clearance is required for this position.
