Postdoctoral position on X-ray emission from the Galactic center
Job Summary
Job Description
Applications are invited for a post doctoral position on X-ray emission from the Galactic center, within the framework of the Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) - Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera.
INAF is a world leading institute, the primary and largest institute in Italy for research in Astrophysics.
The successful applicant is expected to become one of the driving forces of the “Hot Milk” project funded by the European Research Council and aimed at characterising the hot phase of the Milky Way, to take advantage of our Chandra large survey of the central degrees of the Milky Way and of our XMM Heritage program covering the central disc of the Milky Way.
The work, performed under the supervision of Dr. Gabriele Ponti, will revolve around the analysis and interpretation of the X-ray data from the Galactic center, to characterise the point sources and transients observed at the Galactic center, to investigate the link between the energetic activity at the Milky Way center and its relations with the Galactic corona and the Galactic outflow. Additionally, the properties of the hot phase of the Milky Way and of the point sources will be compared with the emission at other wavelengths.
Applications from non-X-ray-experts are also encouraged.
The appointment will be for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension. The Hot Milk project will run for a total of five years. Applicants should submit their documents including a CV, a list of publications, a brief (~1 page) description or research interests and two recommendation letters by May 31st, 2021.
The call for applications can be found at: http://www.brera.inaf.it/?page=lavoro
INAF is an equal-opportunity employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
