The Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University invites applications for PhD-student positions in Astronomy. Reference number SU FV-0885-17

The department consists of ~15 faculty staff, ~15 senior and postdoctoral researchers, and >20 PhD students. Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and has an international character. Most Stockholm researchers have an international background and English is commonly used both at the department and in daily life.
The department invites applications in the following areas of research:
* Solar Physics,
The Institute for Solar Physics of Stockholm University operates the world-leading Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope on La Palma. We seek PhD candidates that want to work on numerical modelling of the solar atmosphere and/or perform observational work with the telescope in order to investigate the relation between the magnetic field of the Sun and the heating of the outer solar atmosphere.
* Multi-Messenger signals from compact binary mergers
We seek a PhD student that is interested in the computer simulation of the multi-messenger signals of compact binary mergers. The specific focus will be on the electromagnetic transients that accompany the gravitational wave signal of a binary neutron star mergers
