Job Description

The School of Astronomy & Space Science within the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) in Beijing invites applications for postdoctoral fellowships.

The newly-formed School is currently located at the National Astronomical Observatory of CAS (NAOC) in Beijing.  NAOC manages a broad range of researchers and national observational facilities, and fellows will be encouraged to interact across the increasingly strong astronomy, astrophysics & space science community in Beijing.

We anticipate funding multiple positions through both internal and external sources.  Suitable applicants can expect a CAS international postdoctoral fellowship, providing truly competitive support for an initial appointment of 2 years (with potential for extension to 4 years).  Experienced postdocs are also likely to be successful in obtaining significant independent research funding.

We welcome excellent applicants in any field of observational or theoretical astronomy, astrophysics or space science, regardless of gender, nationality or cultural heritage.   Nonetheless, candidates enthusiastic about taking advantage of data from Chinese facilities such as FAST, LAMOST or HXMT are encouraged to make this clear in their research plan, as are applicants interested in working with particular individuals in UCAS or NAOC.

Applicants are requested to provide a CV, a brief description of their research experience so far, and a clear plan for their future research in a single PDF file. They should also arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be sent to:
[email protected]
Informal questions may also be sent to that address.

Applications which arrive by 1st February 2017 will receive full consideration.
