Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Victoria to work with the group of Prof. Sara Ellison.  The research conducted by this group covers several observational and theoretical aspects in the field of galaxy evolution, including galaxy mergers, quantitative morphologies, galactic gas content, chemical evolution and the impact of AGN.

The successful applicant will be expected to work on topics of interest to the research group and to develop and lead their own projects within this framework.  Ideally, the applicant will bring complementary skills to the group, with expertise in either machine learning, galaxy simulations, large surveys/big data or observations of gas in galaxies of particular interest.    The proposed research, its context with the group's interests and complementarity of the applicant's expertise should be clearly described in a research proposal accompanying the application.

Applications from observers and theorists are welcome.  Theorists are encouraged to also apply to work in Prof. Ellison's group via the CITA National Fellowship program (whose deadline is Nov 10. 2018): https://jobregister.aas.org/ad/c3f0003d

Applicants should submit a CV, summary of proposed research (max 2 pages) and 3 confidential letters of reference (which must be included in the uploaded package) via Academic Jobs Online  (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/edelivery/2469) by  Dec. 3 2018.
