The Astronomy Department at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to work with Prof. Stella Offner and her research group. Applicants with theoretical and computational expertise in the areas of star and planet formation research, including studies of molecular clouds, the formation of star clusters, protostellar and protoplanetary disks, astrochemistry and/or machine learning are encouraged to apply. Ongoing research programs include: modeling and identification of stellar feedback; magnetohydrodynamic simulations of star clusters; astrochemical modeling of clouds, cores, and disks; development of machine learning methods for data classification, segmentation and tracking; and analysis of molecular line and dust continuum surveys of star-forming regions. The successful applicant can participate in one or more of these programs, including leading publication of results. The successful applicant will also have opportunities to assist in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students and is encouraged to maintain an independent research program. The University of Texas at Austin is an EEO/AA employer, and we particularly encourage women and members of underrepresented groups to apply.
UT Austin has a large astronomy department and UT Austin postdocs have access to high-performance computing resources at the Texas Advanced Computing Center and to McDonald Observatory facilities, including the 10m HET and 2.7m Smith telescopes. Austin is a vibrant city with an active music, restaurant and cultural scene, and excellent weather allowing year-round outdoor activities.
