The Institute for Physics and Astronomy of the Universidad de Valparaíso (IFA-UV, Chile; https://ifa.uv.cl/en/) invites applications for three tenure-track positions to cover the areas of Stellar or Exoplanetary Astrophysics (code IFA-001), Extragalactic Astrophysics (code IFA-002), and Cosmology, Gravitation or Particle Physics (code IFA-003). We seek highly qualified applicants with a PhD in Astrophysics, or related field, presenting an excellent record in forefront research. To promote gender equity in the Physics group within the IFA-UV, the call for code IFA-003 is only directed to female candidates.
IFA-UV is located in Valparaíso, a city declared a world heritage site by UNESCO. The successful candidates will join the vibrant atmosphere of the IFA-UV, which is nowadays composed of 19 faculty, 7 postdocs, 29 postgraduate and over 150 undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have to produce scientific research in the area of expertise, teach at under- and post-graduate levels (in Spanish within one year), participate in outreach activities and support general management duties.
The selected candidates will qualify as members of the Chilean community with privileged access to 10% of the time on all observatories in Chile, including ALMA, ESO, Gemini-South, LCO, CTIO, APEX, possible membership to SDSS-V, LSST, CCAT surveys, and upcoming access to ELT, GMT and CTA. The salary is the standard scale for academics in Chilean public universities, including financial incentives for scientific publications.
