Job Description

The Department of Physics & Astronomy at The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) invites applications from outstanding candidates for a tenure-track faculty position in astrophysics. The expected start date is August 2019.

Appointment will be at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or foreign degree equivalent) in physics, astronomy, or a closely related field. This hire is expected to complement or expand the current research interests of astrophysics faculty in the department, which include cosmology, galaxy groups and clusters, large scale structures, galaxy evolution, gravitational-wave astronomy, astrophysical simulations, and areas of high-energy astrophysics. The position is open to candidates in both experimental and theoretical areas.

The new faculty member will also be able to collaborate with scientists from UAH's Center for Space Plasma and Aeronomic Research (CSPAR) and the neighboring NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, which manages the Chandra X-ray and Fermi gamma-ray telescopes, and houses astrophysicists over a broad spectrum of research areas (solar and planetary physics, X-ray and gamma ray astrophysics, cosmic rays, and others). The candidate is expected to establish and maintain a vigorous research program with external funding, involve both graduate and undergraduate students in research, and be committed to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and in service to the university and research community.
