The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Fellow / Instrument Scientist will contribute to the strategic goals of the Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre working on one or more instrumentation projects in ground and space-based astronomy, space technologies and related fields. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, construction, testing, and/or deployment of laser guide star adaptive optics instruments for astronomy and space, joining a team of ~50 multi-disciplinary researchers and engineers. It is expected that the successful candidate will take a leadership role in the Laser Tomography Adaptive Optics project for the Giant Magellan Telescope. ANU is a major partner in the 25-metre diameter Giant Magellan Telescope being built in Chile. 

The Person

We are looking for a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders. You will have a PhD or progress towards a PhD or equivalent in physics, astronomy, optical engineering or related area with work experience in a research field related to astronomical and/or space instrumentation in the visible and/or infrared wavelengths. You will also have experience in instrumentation development for astronomy and/or space, most specifically in laser guide star adaptive optics.
